This week, the Chicago Cubs are hosting the New York Mets for three games at Wrigley Field, with their nominal top-3 starters on the mound: Cade Horton, Matthew Boyd, and Shota Imanaga.
Although, as we’ve discussed, Boyd isn’t really in my top-3 at the moment (in terms of a playoff rotation), he absolutely will get a postseason start if the Cubs advance. So you’re still very heavily rooting for him to suddenly look great again.

Offensively, there aren’t many new storylines on which to keep an eye. Basically, we’re just hoping Michael Busch, Ian Happ, and Nico Hoerner can stay hot, that Seiya Suzuki and Pete Crow-Armstrong can get hot, and that the peripheral rookies, Moises Ballesteros and Matt Shaw, and veterans, Dansby Swanson and Carson Kelly, can contribute in their own ways.
Well, that and we’re still wondering if Kyle Tucker is going to play another game in a Cubs uniform this season.
As a reminder, the Cubs’ star right fielder, Tucker, should be in Chicago to get his calf reevaluated, but it sounded like he was doubtful to play again tonight (that, after returning from Tampa without progressing to running). My take on Craig Counsell’s comments: It sounded like a Tucker return before the end of the season was a possibility, but we are quickly running out of time to make that make sense. Remember, it’s not just about getting him back, it’s about getting him right, ready, on time, etc.
Daniel Palencia will also likely be activated soon, and the Cubs will want to see him in a big moment ASAP.
All right, Cubs. Don’t fumble the top seed. Win your games and get ready for the playoffs.
