Monchi will leave his role as president of football operations at Aston Villa, talkSPORT understands.
The Spaniard will depart just two years after he joined from Sevilla as Villa begin to feel the effects of a difficult summer transfer window.
His exit also comes amid a dreadful start to the 2025/26 season.
Unai Emery’s side are 18th and winless in the Premier League following their 1-1 draw away at ten-man Sunderland on Sunday.
Sources close to Monchi suggest that he felt he took Villa as far as he could due to the financial constraints at the club.
Monchi is also understood to have wanted more financial support to sign Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio on permanent deals.
Rashford shone on loan last season although was an unlikely target this summer due to his desire to play for Barcelona.
Asensio, however, signed for Fenerbahce for €7million after he also impressed during a temporary spell at Villa.
Several members of the club were left surprised with the small fee and how Villa did not act quicker in the market.
However, it’s not clear if Monchi agrees with this view.

Villa were very much a club on the rise last season as they reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
They fell to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain, before finishing sixth in the Premier League to qualify for the Europa League.
