June Squibb, who will star in the new film Eleanor the Great, recently spoke with The Cut to talk about her career, her morning routine, her thoughts on New York City vs Los Angeles, what it's like to have a personal assistant and how she manages stress.
Born in 1929 in Illinois, Squibb began her career in theater and Broadway productions decades before moving into television and movies. She is best known for her breakout performance as Kate Grant in Alexander Payne's Nebraska, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2014.
Throughout the years, Squibb has also appeared in projects with small, supporting roles in TV shows and movies such as Palm Springs, Big Bang Theory, Grey's Anatomy, Godmothered and Inside Out 2. In 2024, she made headlines as the oldest action star in Thelma, and now stars as Eleanor Morgenstein in Scarlett Johansson's Eleanor the Great, which follows a 94-year-old Eleanor moving to New York City after her best friend passes away.

In addition, she loves watching FBI shows on CBS, Kelly Clarkson's new show Songs & Stories and likes to wind down with a decaf mocha with whipped cream. When it comes to managing her stress, Squibb admitted that she "thinks very little about it."
"If something happens that’s stressful, I make a quick decision and handle it," she explained. "It's as simple as that."
Despite being 95 years old and having been in the industry for decades, Squibb has no plans of slowing down. The actress is set to star in the upcoming Broadway production of Jordan Harrison's play Marjorie Prime, which follows the 85-year-old Marjorie, who is given a companion called a "Prime", a younger and AI version of her deceased husband Walter, to help her with her fading memory. Previews are set to start on Nov. 20 and will officially open in December.
Eleanor the Great will be out this Friday in theaters.
