This weekend, the 2025 European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup docked at Port Vell in Barcelona with Hungary’s David Betlehem and Poland’s Klaudia Tarasiewicz emerging as winners in the 10k event.

For Tarasiewicz, this marked her second victory in as many stops that she participated in. The 21-year-old Pole topped the field at the Cup’s first stop in Cyprus this May. This weekend, she kept Monaco’s Lisa Pou, the overall Cup leader, at bay for the bulk of the race before charging to a five-second victory in the end (2:02.39).

Pou went on to earn silver, keeping her overall #1 standing and clocking a time of 2:02.44.28.

France’s Caroline Jouisse rounded out the podium, earning a bronze a second and a half behind Pou. Jouisse said she was happy with the result considering she suffered food poisoning the night before the race.

On the men’s side, David Betlehem had his strongest showing in a 10k yet this summer by outdueling a swarm of Italian stars for his first gold medal of 2025 in the distance. The 22-year-old stopped the clock in 1:54:09.88 after surging ahead of his opponents in the final 400 meters.

In an interview, Bethlehem shared that he and his Hungarian training group have been hitting 4x500s butterfly descending on 6:20 in preparation for their races.

Led by Marcello Guidi with a 1:54:11.46, Italy picked up a 2-6 sweep of positions. Like Betlehem, this was Guidi’s first medal in the 10k distance this year. Andrea Filadelli earned bronze, matching his result from the Cup’s previous stop in Paris. Dario Verani grabbed 4th, while Fabio Dalu and Pasquale Angelo Giordano rounded out the Italy contingent with 5th and 6th places.

American Dylan Gravley was the only non-European to compete in Barcelona. He finished 8th in the men’s 10k.

Barcelona marked the penultimate of five stops in this year’s Cup series. The final stop takes place in Razanac, Croatia, this weekend.
