NBA Star Karl-Anthony Towns Reveals Nicknames That Made Him Cringe: Thats Even Worse

Karl-Anthony Towns gets candid about the public’s perception of him, including the infamous nicknames he’s picked up throughout his career.

Considered one of the elite players of the NBA, the 29-year-old has showcased his versatility and dominance on the court, but his presence off the court is just as notable.

With that visibility comes a variety of nicknames, some flattering and some less flattering.

During his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the New York Knicks star brought plenty of laughs, showing off his unfiltered side on the late-night talk show.

In one of the segments, the award-winning host asked him to rate the infamous nicknames he had by giving them a thumbs down or up.

The first Fallon mentioned was “KAT,” which stands for the Knicks center’s initials, to which he responded, “I love it,” and gave it a thumbs up, adding, “Simple. Right to the point.”

The second nickname, “KIT KAT,” made the NBA star pause briefly before he responded with a thumbs-up.

“I gotta love for Kit-Kats, so I'm still giving a thumbs up,” he said.

“This is something that’s going around since you are in the New York Knicks, so we’re thinking maybe ‘Bodega Kat,’” the host explained.

“Ohh yeah, I like that,” Towns said, giving a thumbs-up.

The playful nickname was adopted by fans after his trade to the team in 2024.

As for the fourth moniker, the host mentioned “The Big Bodega.”

“I love that,” he said with a grin, nodding to the audience as they reacted enthusiastically.

The nickname Big Bodega was given by his teammate Josh Hart after the then-new Knicks member made his preseason debut.

Hart even shared it on X, celebrating the moment with fans.

However, while Towns loved the four previous nicknames, he wasn’t as enthusiastic about the next name, which includes “The Big Meow.” He claims it “sounds like a Josh Hart,” so he decided to pass on it.

“Josh Hart, if you are watching this, I don't like that either,” he added.

The last nickname made him cringe with Fallon saying, “The Big Purr.”

“That’s even worse than what Josh Hart says,” the five-time NBA All-Star replied, giving it two thumbs down.

During his guest appearance on The Tonight Show, he also spoke about his love for his mother.

Minnesota Timberwolves Karl-Anthony Towns with parents Karl and Jackie.

Towns revealed how thrilled his mother was when he achieved his dream of joining the NBA.

“As she always says, her baby made it to the NBA and achieved his dreams,” he said, adding, “That is a magical moment not just for me but for my family, who recognized that moment as pretty special.”

The New Jersey native made his NBA debut in 2015 with the Minnesota Timberwolves. After nine seasons, he was traded to the New York Knicks in 2024.
