For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Alamo Area Aquatic Association’s Grant Lilly has verbally committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as a part of the 2026 recruiting class.
Lilly was featured in SwimSwam’s “Best of the Rest” section in the ranking of the top 20 recruits in the boys’ class of 2026.
God, Country, Notre Dame
I’m blessed, and overjoyed, to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at the University of Notre Dame. Thank you to everyone who has helped me in my swimming career- especially Coach Doug, Coach Kam, and the entire Notre Dame staff. I’m extremely excited to continue competing in South Bend!
Go Irish!
As a junior at Ronald Reagan High School, Lilly captured his first individual Texas 6A state title in the 500 freestyle, touching in a best time of 4:20.09. That was three spots better than his finish the year prior, when he touched 4th in 4:23.13. He also turned in a 6th place finish in the 200 free in 1:38.07, just off of his best he set just over two weeks earlier in 1:37.41.
He put forward an impressive performance at the Speedo Sectionals in Justin this past March. There, he set lifetime bests in the 50 free (22.19), 100 free (45.88), 1000 free (9:04.07), 100 butterfly (49.75), 100 breaststroke (58.49), 200 breast (2:07.55), 200 IM (1:51.66), and 400 IM (3:55.28).
Lilly was named an NISCA All-American for his performances in the 200 free and 500 free. His 500 free ranked 7th among all high school performers a season ago.
Best Times SCY:
100 Free: 45.88 200 Free: 1:37.41 500 Free: 4:20.09 1000 Free: 9:04.07 1650 Free: 15:29.34The Fighting Irish men finished 15th at the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships last season. Looking at Lilly’s best times, he would have finished 44th in the 200 free, qualified for the ‘C’ final in the 500 free, and 21st in the 1650 free.
Lilly will head to South Bend as an immediate distance freestyle scorer. The Irish are looking for an emphatic comeback this season in the ACC after sitting out last season due to suspension. The addition of Lilly will fortify the distance freestyle unit that will be quintessential if Notre Dame wants to ascend back to the upper tier of the ACC.
Lilly joins Ryan Quinn, Finn Martin, Brayden Jones, and James Darcy in Notre Dame’s 2026 recruiting class.
