Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs turned heads last weekend when they wore t-shirts in support of their teammate Rashee Rice — and now an attorney for Rice's victims is speaking out.
Rice, a wide receiver for the Chiefs, is currently serving a six-game suspension following a 30-day jail sentence for his involvement in a high-speed crash in Dallas in 2024.
Before their 20-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 14, several Chiefs players — including Kelce — wore "Free 4" t-shirts in support of Rice. "4" is a reference to Rice's jersey number.
The stunt was widely criticized by fans, and now Marc Lenahan, a lawyer for one of the crash victims, is calling the team out.

"I represent Katherine. Katherine was just like everybody else on Easter weekend that was on one of the highways in DFW," said Lenahan to Fox 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth. "A Lamborghini [driven by Rice] going 119 miles an hour went on the shoulder and then came back, clipped her, spun her, and her and five other people were all hurt."
Lenahan added that the public display of support is "rubbing salt in the wounds of Rashee’s victims."
When asked about the t-shirts, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid denied there was any deeper meaning behind them.
"I know these guys love Rashee and they feel for him sitting out here. And so I think it's no more than that. I just think that those guys, they love the kid and want him to feel part of it in their own way. I really don't think it's anything more than that." he said to ESPN Wichita 92.3.

Lenahan, however, believes the team's "support" for Rice disregards the harm he caused.
"It’s cruel. It’s cynical. It is deceitful," he said. "And it’s just so narrow focused. I get that Kelce is worried about the performance of the team and loves his team, and loves his brother. I get that. But he also knows that Rashee screwed up and hurt people and has achieved responsibility as best as he could for that."
Rice pleaded guilty to felony racing on the highway and felony accident causing serious bodily injury in July. He was sentenced to five-years probation and 30 days in jail.
A representative for Kelce did not immediately respond to Parade's request for comment.
