ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Things were really feeling like fall this morning with many areas across New York getting down to the 40s overnight, some areas even in the 30s like Penn Yan and Elmira (And then there’s Saranac lake who hit 25). Plentiful sunshine and an easterly breeze will keep us comfortable with highs in the upper 60s today, making for perfect outdoor conditions. The only two outdoor activities I do not recommend are boating on Lake Ontario due to the winds creating chop, and anything involving fire due to the drought conditions and slight breeze. Temperatures fall back into the 50s after sunset and get as low as the upper 40s overnight.
Sunday, the wind begins to come out of the south, leading to a major warmup – So, looks like we’re getting the best of both worlds this weekend! Upper 60s today, around 80 tomorrow! A little cloudier but still lots of sun poking through, so enjoy the last day of summer to the fullest.
Fall officially begins Monday at 2:19pm, but it will still feel like summer out then and Tuesday with highs in the upper 70s, now with an added threat of rain and thunder. No severe weather expected as of right now, so we’ll stay Green on the Threat Tracker. We could really use the rain as we find ourselves in a moderate drought and have not had any measurable precipitation in the last 7 days. The rain on Monday and Tuesday could combine to give us up to an inch.
Expect overall dry weather (except for a shower chance Friday) and more seasonably mild temperatures the rest of next week.
