The Blackhawks had a tough practice yesterday working on breakouts and transitions. Then they got a nice bag skate on a fresh sheet of ice, a sprint that had a lot of the skaters grabbing their knees and looking to the sky. When we got in the room after the first and second half of practices, the skaters were feeling it. We’ll see how their legs feel with a couple practice sessions today — which, again, are open to the public.

Blashill told us on Friday he was surprised a player who performed as well as Grzelcyk did in Pittsburgh last year was still available at the beginning of camp. With Wyatt Kaiser getting his new contract done in time for camp, the need for an insurance policy on the left side of the blue line isn’t as big.
