Windsor, Severance schools to host meet-and-greet for board of education candidates

The Weld RE-4 School District, serving students in west Greeley, Severance and Windsor, will host an evening to meet board of education candidates Tuesday, Oct. 7 at Hollister Lake Elementary School in Windsor.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. and will be held in the school cafeteria. Hollister Lake Elementary is located at 550 Sundance Dr. in Windsor.

    Candidates up for election in November will speak and answer questions on the school district and the board of education. The meeting is designed as a question-and-answer session and will not include a debate, according to a news release from the school district.

    Election day is Nov. 4.

    District A

    Windsor resident Christopher Kiraly and his wife, Brooke, have two young children in local schools. He is on the Orchard Hill Elementary parent-teacher association and the district accountability committee, according to a news release from the school district. He also has experience on the RainDance Neighborhood Association Board and RainDance Metro District Board.

    Incumbent Raymond Ruth is the board treasurer. He was appointed to the board in January 2023 and elected in November 2023. In Ruth’s time on the board, the school district has opened three new schools, expanded two others, and approved double-digit pay increases for personnel. Ruth and his wife, Christen, are the parents of three daughters — two of whom are Windsor High School graduates and the third is a freshman.

    District C

    Board president Lance Nichols was first elected to the board in 2021 and elected president in 2023. While on the board, the district has passed and overseen a bond measure to address overcrowding, enhance safety and improve facilities. He sits on the boards of the Weld RE-4 Foundation and the Colorado Auctioneers Foundation. Nichols and his wife, Adele, have two children who are Windsor High School graduates.
