Fans shouldn't get their hopes up for a sequel for The Princess Bride, and star Robin Wright explained why.
"Sometime after we hit the 30-year mark, the cast did a Zoom call, and a couple of actors were like, 'We’ve been asked if we’ll do a sequel,' and I was like, 'Well, a lot of us are going to be in a wheelchair,'" Wright, 59, told AARP's Movies for Grownups in an interview published on Thursday, September 18, about a potential sequel. "So no, no, that will never happen."
The 1987 film followed a farmboy-turned-pirate who sets out on a quest to reunite with his true love Buttercup, the Princess Bride (played by Wright). On his journey, he encounters several obstacles, enemies and allies.
The Princess Bride marked Wright's breakout film role. However, she was already actively working and was known for playing Kelly Capwell on the soap opera Santa Barbara.
Despite shutting down all hope for a sequel, Wright recalled what a good time the cast had on set of the film.

"We laughed so hard making that movie, we’d have to cut camera and start over again because it was such a giggle-fest," she shared. "Normally, you go to a set, you act, you wrap, and you go back to your hotel room alone. But we took over the hotel, and Cary [Elwes] and I and Rob Reiner and Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest would all have a potluck dinner in the big kitchen. It was going home with people you had fun with to play music, eat good food and commune."
Wright went on to acknowledge that The Princess Bride has had a lasting legacy among fans. "I get, 'Run, Forrest, run' from Forrest Gump. Little girls who love The Princess Bride say to me, 'Hello. As you wish!' It’s so sweet. Both films are so timeless," she said.
