Rochester Fringe Festival (Friday and Saturday)

    The 14th annual Rochester Fringe Festival closes out on Saturday, but there are so many highly anticipated acts before then.

    The festival has brought world-class performers in dance, theater, music, comedy, filmmaking, visual arts, acrobatics, magic, and more to Rochester. It features 650 shows at more than 30 venues across the city, including the return of a free, outdoor headliner at Parcel 5.

The Rochester Fringe Festival is considered the largest multidisciplinary performing arts festival in New York State and one of the largest fringe festivals in the nation. Here’s your guide to some shows on Friday and Saturday to close out the 12-day festival:

    The SPHERE at Parcel 5 (Friday and Saturday): A giant, glowing sphere and an acclaimed Italian acrobatics group is coming to Parcel 5. eVenti Verticali’s SPHERE is set to hold four free performances in its Fringe debut. The act involves a sphere suspended 60 feet in the air, surrounded by aerial dancers and lights, set to music. You can learn more here. Here’s when the show is taking place: Friday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Return of Street Beat at MLK Park (Saturday): Once again, the last day of the festival will include Street Beat, a high-energy breakdancing competition at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park that’s free to attend. Teams of three will compete to impress judges and earn a grand prize of $1,200. The first round of Street Beat gets underway at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20. Cirque du Fringe: Claws Out (all remaining days): The world premiere of “Cirque du Fringe: Claws Out!” is at the Spiegeltent for 11 of the 12 days of the festival. Socialite and opera singer Kitty Ross invites you to be her guests of honor for an evening of acrobatics, swashbuckling swordsman, and comedy. It features Las Vegas legends Matt and Heidi Morgan. You can get tickets and see show times here. Submergence (all remaining days): An immersive walk-through with light, sound, and technology has come to the Spiegelgarden. Submergence is taking place all 12 days of the festival and costs $4 to enter. U.K. art collective Squidsoup designed the display to simulate lucid dreams. of virtual presence and energy placed in our physical world; something other and beguiling, there but not.     Oktoberfest at the Rochester Public Market (Friday)

    A German tradition is coming to the Rochester Public Market on Friday afternoon. Oktoberfest will feature beer, food, live music, cultural performances, games, and more.

    Oktoberfest runs from 5 to 9 p.m. It’s in collaboration with Rohrbach’s Brewing Company and the City of Rochester. Organizers say there will also be family-friendly activities at the celebration.

    RMSC Fantastic Findings Sale (Friday and Saturday)

    RMSC is holding the final days of its annual Fantastic Findings sale at the Eisenhart Auditorium & Cunningham House.

    The sale will feature furniture, art, glasswork, silver, lamps, jewelry, linens, toys, electronics, collectibles, and more, which RMSC calls “next-to-new.” The sale began on Wednesday. It runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday for the final day. Visit RMSC’s website here to learn more.

    RMSC Fantastic Findings Sale

    Rochester Half Marathon and 5K (Sunday)

    The annual Rochester Half Marathon and 5K returns on Sunday morning. The races start at Maplewood Park and end at Innovative Field. There will also be a kids’ half-mile run.

    Runners will gather near the tennis courts.
