ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. — New York State Police have shared video showing troopers rescuing a driver from a car that caught fire on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, near the state line with New Jersey.
The single-car crash happened around 4:40 a.m. on Sunday near Exit 12 in Rockland County. Troopers arrived to find a car into a tree, with the engine compartment on fire.
Troopers say the driver wasn’t able to move because of his injuries. Troopers Derick Macaulay and Peter Pjetri pulled the driver to safety, moments before the car became fully engulfed in flames.
State Police eventually determined that the driver had hit a deer, causing him to lose control. He was taken to the hospital to treat fractures. See the body-worn camera from the troopers:
