ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The city announced an upgrade to SNAP benefits allowing elderly, disabled, and homeless people to use their benefits to purchase hot meals.
Eligible people can use SNAP to pay for hot meals through the New York State Restaurant Meals Program at certain restaurants.
“We are dealing with a fast-paced environment,” said City Councilmember Mitch Gruber. “Cooking is unfortunately not as common as it once was. It is critically important for us to make every product available for users of the SNAP program.”
This change was announced at the Public Market Thursday. Gruber said the upgrade should have a significant economic benefit for many small businesses.
