Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has spoken out to deny that talks have been held over his future at the club.
The Red Dragons boss is under pressure amid his side’s nightmare start to the Championship season.
Following three consecutive promotions, Parkinson’s men headed into the second tier riding on an incredible high.
However, after five games of the campaign, they’re still waiting for their first home win, losing three of their opening matches.
The disappointing start comes after Wrexham spent £30million in the summer transfer window, bolstering their squad.
And now that things aren’t going to plan for the club owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Parkinson’s future has come into question.
talkSPORT understands that talks have been held over whether they want to continue with the 57-year-old on the touchline.
But Parkinson has now denied that any talks have happened, responding to his sack rumours defiantly.
“There were no discussions at all after the game [against QPR],” Parkinson told a press conference. “I wasn’t aware of that.
“We were just frustrated as a staff. I had a chat with the players, but it was only a brief one, and we picked up things on Monday.”
He added: “To be honest with you, I have had a lot more pressure situations than this.
“Managing Sunderland, managing Bolton when no one got paid for five months when we were in the Championship, and me and Steve [Parkin] kept Bolton in the division with an embargo when we had absolutely no money to spend.
Parkinson has responded to the talk surrounding his future as Wrexham managerGetty“Steve and I have discussed that quite a lot and as much as the promotions we have had together, that was probably one of our biggest achievements.
“I have had lots of challenges along the way, so is managing Wrexham like the top level of pressure? No, it’s not.
“It has been enjoyable. We have won a large proportion of games and even in promotion-winning seasons, history-making periods in your career as a manager, you still get questions along that journey.
“That is just inevitable and every manager’s the same. Wrexham supporters aren’t unique in the football world of questioning players or managers, or this or that.
“That is just the way it is and you get on with it.”
Parkinson then continued: “In each season I have been here and every season I have had as a manager, and a lot of successful seasons, you have times where people question you, question the players.
The Red Dragons boss has remained confident that he can deal with the tough situationGetty“But that’s where everyone sticks together and comes through the other side of it stronger than ever.
“We are experienced enough as a management team and the ownership group to work together.”
Wrexham’s slow start
Since Parkinson was appointed as Wrexham manager in 2021, he has led them to promotion every single year.
They’ve remarkably gone from the National League to the Championship in just four years.
However, despite upping their spending this summer, the second tier already seems to be a potential step too far.
In their opening five games, they’ve lost three and drawn one, only winning away at Millwall so far this season.
The table after five games makes for tough reading for WrexhamThat victory was impressive, but a 3-1 home loss to Queens Park Rangers saw them come crashing down again last weekend.
It leaves the Red Dragons 21st in the table in the early stages, already conceding 10 goals in their five outings.
Parkinson now has a tough task to turn things around, but there’s plenty of time to do so and that may play into his hands.
And the long season may see Reynolds and McElhenney take their time with a decision, despite initial talks being held.
Another positive that could boost Parkinson’s chances of staying in his job is that Wrexham remain in the Carabao Cup after beating West Brom and Preston North End.
They face Reading in the third round of the competition after their next league game away at Norwich on Saturday.
