Dun-dun: Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent is coming to the States!
The latest Law & Order spinoff, which premiered in Canada in 2024, will air its first season in the U.S. this fall on the CW.
You can expect a lot of what you've come to love about the franchise, but with a twist making it uniquely Canadian.
"It's a brand. [We want to] deliver stories and performances and all of the twists and turns that are expected from the Law & Order franchise, but also feel like we are distinct within that in terms of stories and sense of place," executive producer Erin Haskett told Variety. She added, "People will respond to what’s familiar, but celebrate what feels distinctly Canadian. We've worked on other police detective shows in the past that have sold all over the world, in many, many territories. In those cases, they didn't necessarily have a brand or a franchise behind them. So we have high hopes there will be an audience for this around the world."
So far, there's a huge audience for it in Canada, and we have a feeling viewers stateside will embrace the series as well. Here's everything to know about how to watch Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, what it's about, who's in the cast and more.

Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent has 20 episodes total so far, with 10 each in Seasons 1 and 2.
Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent is essentially a remake of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, but taking place in a cooler climate rife with maple syrup, hockey fans and more easily accessible healthcare. Similar to Law & Order in the U.S., Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent features many stories "ripped from the headlines," including one episode inspired by former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's crack cocaine scandal, Exclaim reported.
"It's finding the right first story to tell in a franchise this well known," showrunner Tassie Cameron explained to Variety. "You want it to be a Canadian story, feel like it's ripped from a Canadian headline and feel like it's highlighting Toronto. So it's picking the right story to tell, but it's also learning how to write these scripts."
That said, there's at least one stark difference between the Big Apple and the Canadian-set series.
"It's the guns," director Sharon Lewis told CBC News. "Guns—just less guns in Toronto, less stories that are centred around guns. It's that we're a softer, kinder city, I think, than the more abrasive New York."
