Kimmel was suspended by ABC on Wednesday following comments the comedian made during his monologue on Monday blasting conservatives for what he said amounted to trying to score "political points" off Kirk's death and joking that Trump was mourning Kirk's death "like a 4-year-old mourns the death of a goldfish."
Kimmel's comments were met with swift backlash, including from Trump's Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr and Nexstar Media Group, the largest provider of local news in the country, which also owns The Hill.
The White House rapid response team also celebrated Kimmel's suspension, writing on social media that ABC was "doing their viewers a favor. Jimmy is a sick freak!"
Kimmel has been a critic of Trump and his allies for years, and the president this summer suggested the comedian could be "next" to be canceled after Paramount announced it was ending "The Late Show" with Stephen Colbert, another frequent critic of Trump.
