It is unclear what exactly happened to provoke such a reaction.
However, he then received a red card and had to be escorted down the tunnel for the final moments.
Simeone’s final involvement came at the end of a rollercoaster evening for Atletico.
The Spanish side found themselves 2-0 down after just six minutes after Liverpool struck through Andy Robertson first, and then Mohamed Salah.
But Atletico fought back, with Marcos Llorente pulling a goal back on the stroke of half-time.
And Simeone’s team then looked to have completed the comeback when Llorente equalised with a volley in the 81st minute.
That wasn’t the end of the drama though, as Van Dijk snatched victory for Liverpool in injury time.
The Dutchman rose highest to head home from Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner, sparking wild scenes at Anfield.
It was at this point that Simeone saw red, as he appeared to take exception to being taunted by the home supporters behind the dugout.
