NFL sneakily deletes tweet detailing Tom Brady’s involvement with Raiders as fans blast ‘conflict of interest’

The NFL has been caught slipping.

In a now-deleted tweet by the official NFL X account, the league showed Tom Brady in the Las Vegas Raiders coaching booth with a headset on, alongside offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, ahead of their clash against the Los Angeles Chargers.

During Monday Night Football, in which the Raiders were defeated 20-9, it was also learned that arguably the greatest NFL quarterback in the history of the sport meets with Kelly two-to-three times a week to watch film and prepare to be at his best in the FOX broadcasting booth.

    There’s one glaring problem.

Brady is both a minority owner of the organization, whilst simultaneously being FOX Sports’ No. 1 NFL analyst, currently in year two of his whopping 10-year, $375 million deal with the broadcaster.

As such, he has access to teams behind the scenes since the start of the season, including the Washington Commanders, having called their Week 1 road game away to the New York Giants.

Having been in and around their facility, though, there are many, including MLB journalist and broadcaster Grant Paulsen, who feels that this is a massive ‘conflict of interest’, especially as the Commanders are the Raiders’ next opponents.

“This is such a ridiculous conflict of interest,” he posted on X, quote-tweeting the video of Brady in the Raiders’ coaching booth. “Brady was just calling the Commanders game last week. Got tons of behind the scenes access.

“But he can just be in the coaching booth when they play in WSH next week? How is this allowed? It’s nuts.”

Paulsen wasn’t the only one bemused, with one NFL fan’s tweet going viral in which they wrote: “We should all care way more that Brady gets to get intel on NFL teams every week that no other owner has access to and report it directly back to the Raiders. It’s insane it’s allowed.”

NFL insider Dan Graziano echoed these sentiments and exclusively told talkSPORT: “It’s quite something to see him out there. If I’m at the same game and you can see him out there in the middle of the field talking to players, he’s a presence, there’s no question about it…

“I’m sure there is plenty of grousing in some front offices about, you know, ‘Why does this guy who helps operate one of our rival teams get access on a level that we don’t grant to executives with other teams or even the media in a lot of cases?’

“It’ll be interesting to watch it going forward and if someone does raise a stink or if we see evidence that maybe some of those conflicts of interest might be seeping into the coverage, which we didn’t, I don’t think last year.”

Furthermore, the debate made its way to mainstream television, where it was the subject of a segment on ESPN’s First Take between Stephen A. Smith, Chris Canty and Marcus Spears, with the latter calling Brady’s dual-role ‘abhorrent.’

“It’s abhorrent for me for his job. I love it for his team… this should not happen with him being a commentator of NFL football games. It actually questions the integrity of the NFL,” he said.

When the former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback first joined the Raiders’ ownership group, the NFL placed some restrictions on him, including him being unable to watch team practices, prohibited from accessing another team’s facility, and not allowed to attend broadcast production meetings.

These restrictions have since been lifted thanks to the ‘Brady rules’, though the 48-year-old made the stark admission that he would still listen to those aforementioned meetings despite the previous restrictions imposed on him.

Now, he can technically feed inside information to the Raiders without facing punishment, which just appears on the surface as though Roger Goodell and the league are allowing Las Vegas to be able to one-up their opponents as they seek to climb out of the depths of years and years of mediocrity.

Brady will be calling the game between the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys in Week 3 — the former will be the Raiders’ Week 4 opponents.

That will certainly be something to keep an eye on.
