The decomposing body found in a car belonging to a popular singer days after he performed at Chicago’s Salt Shed was identified as a teenage girl, authorities told NBC 4 LA Investigates.
Tow yard employees reported a strong odor coming from the impounded Tesla, that is registered to singer D4vd, NBC 4 LA reported. Officers opened the car’s front trunk and found the girl’s remains in a bag, police said.
Based on forensic analysis, the girl is estimated to have been between the ages of 14-years-old and 15-years-old, authorities said. Her name and exact age have not been released because authorities say her next of kin has still not been located.
The cause of death is still being determined.
D4vd performed at Chicago’s Salt Shed on Saturday, Sept 6., just two days before the body was found.
“D4vd has been informed about what’s happened. And, although he is still out on tour, he is fully cooperating with the authorities,” a spokesperson for the singer told NBC4 LA last week.
D4vd, whose legal name is David Burke, gained a following after showcasing his singer-songwriter skills on Tiktok, where he has 3.6 million followers.
D4vd performed at Coachella 2025, and he went viral for a failed backflip on stage. He also opened for SZA on her SOS Tour in 2023 and recently released a song featuring K-Pop star Hyunjin.
Following the Salt Shed performance, the singer’s tour traveled to Madison, Wisc. for a performance on Sunday, to Minneapolis Tuesday and to Kansas City on Wednesday, according to D4vd’s Instagram profile.

Law enforcement sources told NBC News that the remains were not intact, and identification is delayed due to the remains’ level of decomposition.
