SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- San Francisco's Sunset neighborhood may soon oust its district supervisor, Joel Engardio. A recall vote, spurred on by the controversy over the closure of part of the Great Highway, takes place on Tuesday.
With the recall election upcoming, residents in San Francisco's Sunset District are still divided on the future of Supervisor Joel Engardio.
"We need some real representation from somebody who gets who the people are in the sunset, the vibe here, the neighborhood, why people love this area, and what we would like to see going forward," said recall spokesperson Albert Chow.
Tensions were running high the day before residents decided on whether to recall Engardio. Chow is a spokesperson for the recall campaign. He says many residents feel unseen and unheard on many issues, including zoning.

The main point of contention is the aftermath stemming from Prop K, which Engardio spearheaded. Turning part of the Great Highway into Sunset Dunes Park has been a big motivation for both supporters and opponents of the recall.
"People don’t stop at the stop signs over here, and they have to remember that people live here, with kids, and walkers," said one Sunset resident.
”It’s safer for my dog to come home from the beach, but also I just like the open space, I understand both sides," said another Sunset resident.
If Sup. Engardio is recalled, fellow Sup. Connie Chan says she will introduce a bill to change the park back to its original form.
KRON4 reached out to supervisor Engardio for this story, and he declined to comment. Polls open Tuesday at 7 a.m.
