A royal love story is heading to Netflix...and this time, it does not involve Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Princess Märtha Louise of Norway is the subject of the streamer's new documentary, Rebel Royals: An Unlikely Love Story. The feature documentary, premiering Sept. 16, follows the Norwegian Princess and Durek Verrett, a self-proclaimed spiritual guru, as they prepare for their wedding.
In a statement, Director Rebecca Chaiklin described the couple as "two completely unexpected, wild, and charismatic characters from totally different worlds, navigating a swirl of controversy and fighting for love." "It was a great fish-out-of-water story - and they were so funny," Chaiklin said. "So I just had to convince them (and the spirits) that I was “lit” enough to be the one to tell their story.”

While Princess Märtha Louise is the King and Queen's eldest child, her brother Haakon takes precedence over her because they were born before 1990. According to the Norwegian Royal House's website: "A constitutional amendment adopted in 1990 established the right of eldest born child to succeed to the Throne regardless of gender; however, as the amendment entered into force long after the Princess and Crown Prince were born, it was decided that males would continue to take precedence over females for children born prior to 1990."

Does Princess Märtha Louise of Norway have kids?
The Norwegian royal has three daughters from her first marriage to author Ari Behn. She is a mom to Maud Angelica Behn, Leah Isadora Behn and Emma Tallulah Behn. On her and Verrett's first wedding anniversary, the Princess gushed that what she treasures most about her husband is "that you love my children as your own, and that you understand they come first—and love me even more for it."
The pair met in 2018 after a mutual friend, wellness entrepreneur Millana Snow, recommended they meet. "After giving me a healing session she [Snow] told me that the only time she'd felt such intense levels of energy was with Shaman Durek," the Princess recalled to HELLO! in 2024. "'You two have to meet,' she said. But it was a few months before Durek reached out to arrange it."
Verrett admitted to the magazine that when Millana told him that Märtha is a Princess, he was "scared." The shaman explained, "I'd been in relationships where people had made me responsible for their happiness, and because of that I decided to put my focus on God. I wanted my life to be about helping people through my work."
He continued, "But then a friend told me, 'What if she’s the person you've been waiting for?' So I invited Martha to lunch at my home in the Hollywood Hills. My assistant said I should wear a suit, but that's not me - I'm a ripped jeans, rock and roll t-shirts, kimonos, and cowboy boots kind of guy, so that's what I wore."
The royal remembered feeling like she was "greeting an old friend" when Verrett opened the door. "I know you already," she told him, to which he replied, "Yes, we were destined to meet before we were born."
Märtha confessed, "I internally rolled my eyes, thinking he was another LA dude. But when he did an energy reading for a close friend, he was spot-on and I knew then he was the real deal."

Although it was a bit shocking, I think."
Verrett agreed. "I didn't have an idea of what it was gonna be like and then she said, 'Why don't we take some time? Let's keep our relationship secret,'" he recalled. "I was like 'I don't want to walk behind your bodyguards. I don't want to be a person who's always like on the sideline. I want to demonstrate our love to the world and show that love is possible.'"
