Usain Bolt fires stinging dig towards Noah Lyles, Oblique Seville and 100m stars

Olympic legend Usain Bolt has fired a brutal shot at the current crop of track stars.

Bolt, who retired in 2017, remains the world’s fastest man having recorded his record breaking time of 9.58 seconds in the 100 metres.

That feat was set at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin in 2009 with no sprinter coming close to eclipsing the Jamaican since.

Fellow Jamaican sprinter Oblique Seville won the world title on Sunday, posting a time of 9.77 seconds.

Not since 2012 has a sprinter clocked a sub-9.7 time in the 100m

The last two track stars to do so were Yohan Blake and Tyson Gay, both of which served bans for doping.

Even technological advances in footwear have failed to see sprinters inch closer to Bolt’s record.

But for Bolt the reasoning is simple, his generation was simply better.

“You want the real answer? We’re just more talented. That’s all I’m saying. Of course, it shows when it comes to the men,” Bolt told The Times.

“You can see the women are different. The young women are coming up. They’re running faster and faster times [with the new shoes]. I’m just saying, ‘You can’t run faster with brand new spikes?’ We’re just way more talented men.”

The 39-year-old also believes his infectious personality helped grow the sport.

“It’s the personality — I think a lot of people try to be fun, but it comes off differently, you know what I mean?

“I was just having a good time. And I knew that the crowd liked it. When I was in London [as flagbearer for Jamaica at the 2012 Olympic Games], I knew the Queen so I waved. And I tried to engage with the fans. I think that’s why they kind of gravitated [to him].”

How does Bolt fill his spare time since retiring?

Life has taken a contrasting turn for the eight-time Olympic gold medallist whose life is a lot less physical than it used to be.

Bolt admits that while he spends more time in front of the television or playing Lego these days, he needs to get back to running for the sake of his fitness.

“I have to actually start running again,” he added. “Because when I walk upstairs I get out of breath.”

“Normally, I wake up just in time to see the kids off to school,” said the father of three. “And then depending on what I have to do, or if I have nothing to do, I just chill out.

“I might work out, if I’m in a good mood, or I just watch some series and chill until the kids come home.

Bolt spends some of his spare time doing podcasts alongside former track rival Justin Gatlin Bolt was off his seat in Tokyo as Jamaica claimed a 1-2 in the 100m and their first gold at the event since 2015BBC

“I spend some time with them, hang out, until they start annoying me, then I leave. And then afterwards, I just stay at home and watch movies. Or I’m into Lego now, so I do Lego.

“I mostly do gym workouts,” Bolt said. “But I think when I start working out fully again, I probably have to do some laps just to get my breathing right.”

Bolt was in attendance for last weekend’s 100m final at the World Championships in Tokyo.

He was seen wildly celebrating as Jamaica placed first and second thanks to Seville and Kishane Thompson’s heroics.

Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles took bronze to relinquish the title he won in Budapest two years ago.
