The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has announced the closure of the King Tutankhamun Hall at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, effective October 20.
This temporary closure will allow for the transfer of Tutankhamun’s final artifacts to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), where they will be displayed together for the first time in a single, dedicated hall.
This is part of the final preparations for the Grand Egyptian Museum‘s official opening on November 1.
The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mohamed Ismail, confirmed that the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir will continue to welcome visitors as usual during its regular hours.
The closure will be limited to the King Tutankhamun Hall to allow for the final packaging and transport of the remaining artifacts.
He explained that displaying King Tutankhamun’s complete collection of more than 5,000 artifacts in a single hall at the Grand Egyptian Museum is an exceptional event in the history of archaeology and museums worldwide.
Visitors from Egypt and around the world will have the opportunity to see the young king’s treasures presented in a comprehensive context that reflects their richness.
