Sister Wives star Meri Brown criticized the way that her ex-husband, Kody Brown, parents his kids during a recent interview.
During a recent episode of the "I Do, Part 2" podcast, Meri, 54, reflected on how Kody's parenting style has changed over the years. "I’m not going to put any judgment on him,” she said of Kody, 56. “There are things that I think he did better in his younger years than he does now … Parenting is a big one."
As fans of the TLC show know, Kody has distanced himself from many of the children he shares with ex-wives Meri, Christine Brownand Janelle Brown over the years. When it comes to the children he shares with his first three wives and his current wife, Robyn Brown, Kody is that father to a total of 18 kids. His and Janelle's son Garrison Brown died by suicide in March 2024 at the age of 25.
“The way that he parents breaks my heart,” Meri added. “It really does.”
While reflecting on Kody’s estrangement from his children on the podcast, Meri implied that he is mostly to blame for their relationships being estranged.
“He’s got children who need him and want to have a relationship with him and he’s not putting in the effort,” she said. “I don’t see [it]. I can’t say he’s not, but I don’t see effort being put in where some of his kids really need it.”
Meri explained that Kody's parenting used to be "all about his kids” when he was a young dad, things changed over the years. "They were his world,” she reflected. “And so it’s really sad to see the challenges that he and his kids are going through right now.”
Despite not being a fan of his parenting style, Meri insisted that she doesn't think Kody is a "bad person." She said, “I wish him the best ... He’s very charismatic."
Christine, 53, was Kody's first wife to leave him in 2021, followed by Janelle, 56, in December 2022. Meanwhile, Kody and Meri confirmed their split in a joint statement in January 2023. In light of his three spiritual divorces, Kody is now in a monogamous relationship with Robyn, 46.
