ROCHESTER, NY – As scammers use deep fakes to make it seem as though celebrities are pitching products, companies are creating AI tools to help consumers stay one step ahead.
“Ladies. Let me show you how easy it is to make this pink salt plus ice recipe that’s exploding on social media with 21-million views,” a deep fake Oprah says in a social media ad pitching pink salt as a natural way to melt away fat. “But be careful. A 56-year-old woman had to stop because she drank too much and had nothing left to wear.”
News10NBC’s Deanna Dewberry learned about this ad when her cousin Debbie said she’s using pink salt for weight loss. Dewberry had to break it to her that it’s not really Oprah, but a deep fake.
Luzi Sennhauser, co-founder of Aurigin.ai, has software that can spot deep fakes in seconds.
Deanna Dewberry, News10NBC: “So you can take that video that you found on social media and it will tell you if it was AI generated.”
Luzi Sennhauser, Aurigin AI: “Exactly yeah.”
Dewberry tested it out on the deep fake Oprah video she downloaded from Facebook. She went to the Aurigin.ai, uploaded the video, clicked “analyze file” and in seconds it revealed the video is 100% generated.
It’s helpful for consumers and especially business owners who communicate with colleagues and clients via computer.
Luzi Sennhauser: “Literally anything that comes out of your speaker – a Zoom call, a Teams call, a WhatsApp call…. Any application can be analyzed.”
These are all tools to help stay one step ahead of the tech-savvy scammer. The tool is also useful for identifying fake information, from political videos to TikTok tricks.
While Sennhauser’s company primarily targets businesses, regular folks can analyze up to five hours of audio for free.
