CHICAGO BEARS INJURY NOTES — Losing 52-21 in Week 2 stings. But seeing that a handful of key Bears players are dealing with notable injuries heading into the team’s Week 3 game against the Dallas Cowboys is concerning.
During his Monday press conference, Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson shared updates regarding injured cornerbacks Kyler Gordon and Jaylon Johnson, as well as linebacker T.J. Edwards. The news is not encouraging:
Ben Johnson on Jaylon Johnson: “We’re still gathering some information on that. It’s a new injury, it’s not related to what he had before. So we’re still trying to gather a little bit more information before we know for sure.”

In addition to the update regarding Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson, Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson provided some clarity regarding fellow cornerback Kyler Gordon. Unfortunately, it was not a positive bit of news as the head coach said Gordon’s hamstring injury is a “week-to-week” issue. Gordon was a late addition to the Week 1 injury report with a hamstring issue that landed him on the injury report on the Sunday before the season-opener. The University of Washington product did not suit up for the loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football, then missed Week 2’s loss to the Lions after being ruled out during Friday’s injury report release.
The Bears came into the year with high hopes for Kyler Gordon. And with good reason, too. Gordon was coming off of what was arguably his best season with the team in 2024, signed a lucrative multi-year extension in the spring, and was someone who Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen was ready to unleash in new ways. However, whatever plans Allen had for Gordon in his defense are on hold until this hamstring injury clears up. Sadly, it sounds like it could be a while until Gordon makes his 2025 debut.
Linebacker T.J. Edwards was the other key Bears defender to suffer an injury during the team’s Week 2 loss in Detroit. Edwards left Sunday’s defeat with a hamstring injury after playing just 30 defensive snaps in what was his 2025 regular-season debut. The University of Wisconsin product had been dealing with a hamstring injury coming into the game, but did not have an injury designation on the final injury report of the week, which suggests he was given the medical clearance to play ball. However, I can’t stop wondering if Edwards and the Bears rushed back into action. Ugh. I hate this feeling.

(Photo by Todd Rosenberg/Getty Images)If T.J. Edwards is truly week-to-week, then I do not expect to see him anytime soon. It isn’t much in terms of consolation, but at least the Bears are equipped to deal with the loss of a linebacker with Noah Sewell having performed admirably in Edwards’ place in Week 1. Sewell also played well during the preseason. Perhaps the University of Oregon product will use this extended showcase as an opportunity to stand out to coaches. It is nice to see players take advantage of “next man up” situations.
With that being said, the Bears’ cornerbacks room doesn’t have a backup plan I feel good about right now. Tyrique Stevenson, Nick McCloud, Nahshon Wright, Jaylon Jones, and Josh Blackwell are the healthy Chicago cornerbacks right now. Terell Smith, who was projected to be a solid depth piece for this team, was lost to a season-ending knee injury during the preseason. Tre Flowers, who was signed as summertime depth, was recently released from the practice squad. Given the injury issues at the position, I expect the Bears to bring in some corners for tryouts this week.
