Marino's son Michael was diagnosed with autism when he was 2 years old, inspiring the NFL alum to launch the Dan Marino Foundation.
"For me, in the state of Florida and anywhere, it's [raising] the awareness of autism and helping families and kids with developmental disabilities that might not have had the same opportunities that my son Mike had from the time he was 2," Marino told HuffPost in 2012 of the foundation's mission. "There have been a lot of programs that we've helped develop that I think are making a real difference."
"We have a developmental center in Weston, Florida in Fort Lauderdale that sees about 6,000 kids a month," he added. "It's really made a difference, I think, in a lot of people's lives. What's cool about it is that when I go there, a dad will come up or a mom will come up and say that this place has made a difference in our kid's life, in our family's life. It gives you chills, really."
For his part, Michael, now a professional DJ, adores his dad. He told CBS News in 2013, "Because of [Marino's] support and that push, I am able to be who I am today and be able to speak well, which I had a real problem with when I was younger. I found myself when I was younger pointing at a lot of things ... He is just a very kind person, a very good father and he cares a lot about his kids."

Did Dan Marino adopt children?
Yep! Dan and Claire Marino adopted daughters Lia and Niki from China. They adopted Niki in 1998 when she was 2 years old and adopted Lia in 2001 when she was 6 years old.
Claire told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that she was initially nervous about adopting Lia, explaining, "Children at that age tend not to make an easy transition. But she's done fabulous. She started school the other day and after a full day was just laughing and having a good time. She's already off playing with the kids in the backyard. I was not expecting that. I thought it would be a little more traumatic for her."
She added, "I don't know how to say what all this has meant to our family other than to say they are just part of our family. My [birth] children don't look at them any differently. I'm very proud of them for that."

Yes, he does.
In June 2005, Marino welcomed daughter Chloe with Donna Younis (née Savattere), who was a production assistant at CBS Sports when Marino hosted The NFL Today at the network. It was kept quiet for years (allegedly thanks in part to a payoff) and wasn't revealed publicly until the New York Post reported it in 2013.
At the time, Marino said in a statement, "This is a personal and private matter. I take full responsibility both personally and financially for my actions now as I did then. We mutually agreed to keep our arrangement private to protect all parties involved."
