Manchester United tried to throw money at their ongoing problems, yet there has been no signs of improvement during these early weeks of the season. With that in mind, the Red Devils are plotting another £200m rebuild – this time in a particularly weak area of their squad.

After spending close to £200m on transforming their attack last summer, Man United are now looking to do the same with their midfield, according to a report by TEAMtalk.

The Red Devils broke the bank on their new set of attackers this summer, with Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha all looking to make their impact at Old Trafford following their arrivals.

United are now monitoring a number of potential targets to help improve their midfield, starting with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba. The 21-year-old was already linked with the club this summer as the Red Devils were prepared to splash upwards of £100m.

Baleba is not the only target. United are also looking at Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson, as well as Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton – neither of them would be cheap, with United’s total midfield rebuild set to cost around £200m.

Troubled Chelsea ponder Enzo Fernandez future

Just as things were starting to look up for Chelsea, the club are under serious threat of a major sanction from the English Football Association – a threat which may force the Blues to sell one of their top assets.

Chelsea have been accused of breaching regulations 74 times between 2009 and 2022 – a period of time during which Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich owned the club.

With the Blues potentially facing a significant fine, the club are reportedly considering selling one or two of their top players in order to protect themselves.

Enzo Fernandez, who is values at around £65m by Transfermakt, is Chelsea’s highest prized possession. The Real Madrid-linked star arrived at Stamford Bridge for £103m in January 2023, but the club are hoping to get at least £120m should he eventually depart the London-based club.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal are one of three clubs in the race to sign Palmeiras’ 19-year-old Brazilian centre-back, Luiz Gustavo Benedetti.

The Gunners join La Liga giants Barcelona and Serie A’s Napoli in the race to sign the highly rated defender – a player who is widely regarded as one of the top Brazilian prospects.

Palmeiras moved quickly to tie the player down to a long-term contract, with the player putting pen to paper on a deal with the Brazilian club until 2029. Despite that, reports in Brazil suggest the club would be willing to sell for as much as £15m.

Barcelona are reportedly plotting to make an initial £12m bid in order to test the waters, while Arsenal continue to monitor the situation. Napoli’s lack of financial power makes them the underdogs in the transfer race, but the Italian side are also keeping their options open.
