After two years Theo Carver has returned to Salem with Tyler Joseph Andrews assuming the role. Now the actor has shared his perspective on playing this pivotal role and how he leaned in to the character living within the autism spectrum.
Andrews was recently interviewed by Dishin Days podcast where he shared his take on the role.
During this conversation Andrews was asked to describe his approach to playing a character on the spectrum.
“So that was one of the first conversation I had with the directors and the producers”
Andrews explained how he had watched footage of Theo’s previous runs, but he wanted to have a collaborative interpretation working with those behind the scenes. “There's always a little bit of difference in how actors play certain things or how they look at certain things and then how that character views the world.”
As Andrews began filming, he shared how these things helped shape his perspective. “so I immediately just started stepping into the position of how is he [Theo] going to view the world and how does the world view him from this perspective effective and again having that conversation with the directors.”
The actor explained how he used the two-year off-screen gap in Theo’s history to shape how he views the world. He was questioning many different elements, Andrews shared, “Is there anything that I [Theo] went through in the past two years that might influence how I react with people or how certain intense situations or highly emotional situations might be played out in those situations.”
Andrews explained how it wasn’t an easy process as there were so many different voices that he had to balance with his performance, saying, “it's difficult because you know you're playing the line of respecting the character but also having to listen to your directors and worked with them and try to tell the story as best as possible.”
With that said the actor believes fans will be excited with the way his interpretation goes sharing, “I think you will see some things come into fruition in the future.”

Theo Carver is the son of Abe and Lexie Carver. Born on May 29, 2003 and was last seen in 2023. Theo has been portrayed by seven actors over the course of his existence. Most notably Kyler Pettis and most recently portrayed by Cameron Johnson.
Theo’s had various on-screen romances over the years, with his biggest relationships being with Ciara, Claire, and Chanel. Most recently it was revealed that Theo and Claire had broken up. Leaving a single Theo to arrive back in Salem.
