West Georgia, Phillips, Robinson, Yurk, James Earn Stats Perform FCS Football Awards

Opta Analyst’s FCS football coverage includes weekly national player and team honors throughout the regular season and will lead toward the annual season-ending Stats Perform FCS National Awards Presentation on Jan. 3, 2026 in Nashville, Tennessee.

South Dakota’s L.J. Phillips Jr., Marist’s Nate Robinson Jr., Elon’s Jeff Yurk and Furman’s Evan James were selected on Monday as the Stats Perform FCS National Players of the Week for Week 3 college football games through Saturday.

In addition, the West Georgia Wolves were named the Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week.

The weekly honors lead up to the Stats Perform FCS National Awards Presentation on Jan. 3 in Nashville, Tennessee. The season-ending awards are in their 39th year.

The five honorees plus honorable mention selections for the FCS National Awards:

FCS National Offensive Player of the Week

    L.J. Phillips Jr., South Dakota, RB, R-So., 5-8, 225

With All-American Charles Pierre Jr. sidelined by injury, Phillips made his first career start at running back, and he rushed for 301 yards in a 24-17 overtime win over Northern Colorado – the Coyotes’ first of the season. He carried the ball 35 times and scored two touchdowns, including from 13 yards out in the extra session. He was 5 yards shy of USD’s single-game rushing record.

Honorable Mention: Joshua Dye, RB, Southern Utah; Kente Edwards, RB, Lafayette; Sam Milligan, WR, Bucknell; Cole Payton, QB, North Dakota State; Ty Pennington, QB, Northern Arizona; Derek Robertson, QB, Monmouth

FCS National Defensive Player of the Week

Nate Robinson Jr., Marist, CB, So., 6-1, 200

Robinson had a first-quarter interception negated by a teammate’s penalty, so he went out and grabbed two other picks in Marist territory as the Pioneer Football League team won at Wagner 21-10. He finished with a career-best 10 tackles, including one for a loss in the third quarter while denying the Seahawks on 4th-and-1 from the Red Foxes 8. At 2-1, Marist has surpassed last year’s win total.

Honorable Mention: Eli Campbell, DB, Wofford; Christopher Jean, CB, Central Connecticut State; Tye Niekamp, LB, Illinois State; Harold O’Neal III, LB, Hampton; Tyrell Raby, DB, Grambling State; Joshua Stoneking, DE, Furman; Jacob Waller, LB, Lindenwood; Andrew Zock, DE, Mercer

FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week

    Jeff Yurk, Elon, P, R-Sr., 6-2, 224

Yurk set an Elon record by averaging 55.2 yards on six punts in the CAA Football team’s 37-31 road win over Western Carolina. Five of the first-team All-American’s six punts went for 50+ yards, including a career-long 74-yarder. His average was the highest for an FCS player with at least five punts in a game since the spring 2021 season.

Honorable Mention: Victor Barbosa, PK, Alabama A&M; Sloan Calder, PK, Weber State; Dominic Dutton, WR/KR, Western Carolina; Kendric Malone, WR/ST, Lamar; John McConnell, P, Mercer; Ryan Ricketti, WR/KR, Valparaiso; Ilya Uvaydov, PK, Utah Tech; Garth White, PK, Rhode Island

FCS National Freshman Player of the Week

Evan James, Furman, WR, Fr., 5-11, 170

The true freshman’s 30-yard touchdown reception with 4:50 left capped a 10-catch performance and lifted Furman to a 28-24 road win over Campbell. James finished with 134 receiving yards and produced six first downs with his receptions. In three games, he’s caught 25 passes for 291 yards and two TDs.

Honorable Mention: Landon Clark, QB, Elon; Zachary Corna, S, Bucknell; Brooks Davis, WR, Montana; Noah Grevious, WR, VMI; Chase Hatton, S, Marist; Naquan Johnson, DE, LIU; Mason Pickett-Hicks, RB, South Carolina State; Bryce Smith, DB, Eastern Washington; Connor Wolf, QB, Eastern Illinois

FCS National Team of the Week

West Georgia (35-31 win over ETSU)

The then-No. 25 Wolves (3-0) delivered on their first FCS national ranking by overcoming a 31-20 deficit in the final 6:40. The game-winner came on Devion Newsom’s 2-yard touchdown reception from Davin Wydner with 15 seconds left. Wydner fired a trio of scoring passes, Latrelle Murrell posted his third straight game over 100 rushing yards, and Jay Carter and David Hoage had 10 tackles each for coach Joel Taylor’s United Athletic Conference team.

Honorable Mention: New Haven (24-17 win at UAlbany); North Carolina A&T (33-30, 2-OT win over Hampton); Southern Illinois (37-10 win at UT Martin); Tennessee Tech (72-14 win over Davidson)
