Bears blown out by Lions as Jared Goff throws 5 TD passes

There’s still plenty of season left, but Week 2 delivered what could be one of the wildest Sunday’s we’ll see in 2025.

In the early window, four of the nine games were decided by one score — including multiple fourth-quarter lead changes in three of those contests. Sure, there were a couple of blowouts, but the close games were insane enough to balance that out.

Here are all the winners and losers from Sunday:

    WINNER: Unlikely quarterback production

Three quarterbacks who struggled (or didn’t play at all) in Week 1 were stars in Week 2.

First, it was Drake Maye dominating in South Beach. The second-year QB led the New England Patriots to a 33-27 win over the Miami Dolphins in what was the best performance of his young career. Maye went 19 of 23 for 230 passing yards, 31 rushing yards and three total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing).

Down in New Orleans, Mac Jones did his best Brock Purdy impression while filling in for the San Francisco 49ers‘ starting quarterback. He went 26 of 39 for 279 yards and three touchdowns in a 26-21 victory over the New Orleans Saints. The 49ers are now 2-0, and they got good news on Purdy’s recovery earlier on Sunday.

Then, over in Dallas, Russell Wilson somewhat silenced the critics. While some were calling for rookie Jaxson Dart to take over after Wilson’s rough Week 1, the former Super Bowl MVP balled out in a 40-37 overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2. He went 30 of 41 for 450 yards and three touchdowns, all deep balls from more than 25 yards out. His interception in overtime, though, kickstarted the Cowboys’ game-winning drive.

LOSER: Jaguars can’t beat Jake Browning

The Cincinnati Bengals are 2-0, even without Joe Burrow.

The star QB exited early with a toe injury on Sunday, and his backup did everything in his power to help the Jacksonville Jaguars steal the road win. They wouldn’t do it, though, as Browning’s rushing TD in the final minute gave Cincinnati a 31-27 victory.

Browning had 241 passing yards and two touchdowns, along with three interceptions that could’ve been more costly. Trevor Lawrence had two picks of his own, including one in the end zone and another that led to points going the other way.

WINNER: Anyone who watched Giants vs. Cowboys

This NFC East game was improbable from start to finish. Here’s a quick recap:

Giants lead 13-10 at halftime. Cowboys take a 17-16 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter: Cowboys pull ahead 20-16, Giants pull ahead 23-20, Cowboys pull ahead 27-23, Giants pull ahead 30-27, Cowboys pull ahead 34-30, Giants pull ahead 37-34, Cowboys tied it 37-37 at the buzzer (on a 64-yard field goal by Brandon Aubrey!). In overtime: Neither team scores for the entire 10-minute period, until Aubrey hits a 46-yard kick as time expired to win it for Dallas.

How’s that for a Week 2 thriller? The teams scored 77 points in the game, including 41 in the fourth quarter with five lead changes in the final period before overtime.

    LOSER: Steelers’ defense crumbles again

Year after year, the Pittsburgh Steelers pride themselves on defense. That hasn’t been the case in 2025.

Last week, the team allowed 32 points in a narrow win. This week, the Seattle Seahawks dropped 31 points on Pittsburgh in a 14-point road victory. Sam Darnold had two touchdowns and two interceptions, while Kenneth Walker III added 105 rushing yards as Seattle picked up its first win of the season.

Aaron Rodgers, meanwhile, didn’t do much to help his defense. He turned the ball over twice and completed just 18 of 33 passes for 203 yards.

WINNER: Bills and Ravens handle business

A week after their Sunday Night Football thriller, the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills had a lot less stress this time around.

In Baltimore, the Ravens picked apart the division rival Cleveland Browns in a 41-17 victory. Derrick Henry was quiet (6 rushes for 6 yards), but the defense stepped up. The Browns had two turnovers in the game and had just three points at halftime, and a late touchdown by backup QB Dillon Gabriel made the final score closer than it actually was.

The Bills also picked up a division win against the New York Jets, 30-10. Josh Allen briefly exited with a nose injury, but James Cook did enough to beat the Jets on his own. Last year’s rushing touchdown co-leader had 132 yards and two scores, including an improbable 44-yard touchdown through traffic. Jets QB Justin Fields, who shined last week, exited in the fourth quarter with a concussion after going just 3 of 11 for 27 yards.

    LOSER: Ben Johnson’s homecoming

The Detroit Lions didn’t give their former offensive coordinator a warm welcome in his return to Ford Field.

Ben Johnson’s Chicago Bears were blown out 52-21 to fall to 0-2, with Caleb Williams again struggling to put together a complete game. The former No. 1 overall pick went 19 of 30 for 207 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Second-year receiver Rome Odunze was the standout in an otherwise forgettable game, catching both touchdowns and reaching 128 yards.

As for Detroit, it was a get-right game for Dan Campbell’s squad after a quiet Week 1 loss in Green Bay. Jared Goff tossed five touchdowns — three to Amon-Ra St. Brown — in the easy victory against his former play-caller. Even against an inferior opponent, it was an important game for Detroit to play this well for the first time under its new offensive and defensive coordinators.
