Joe Burrow suffered an apparent toe injury in the second quarter of the Cincinnati Bengals’ Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was initially ruled questionable to return but was later downgraded to out.
A report from Cincinnati media after the game doesn’t sound particularly promising, though. FOX 19’s Joe Danneman cited sources reporting that Burrow couldn’t put weight on his left leg after being taken in for an MRI, needing a scooter to get around. If you’ll recall, he suffered an ACL, MCL, and PCL tear in his left knee as a rookie, but it’s too early to tell if this latest injury is connected.
At the time of his departure, Burrow was 7-of-13 for 76 yards and a touchdown.
With Burrow sidelined, 7th-year veteran Jake Browning entered the game, throwing 3 interceptions but going 21-of-32 for 241 yards and 2 touchdowns. He eventually played the hero with 18 seconds left, capping a 15-play, 92-yard drive by punching in from less than a yard out to put the Bengals up for good.
Meanwhile, Burrow’s status will be under the microscope leading up to the Bengals’ Week 3 game against the Minnesota Vikings. Cincinnati can ill afford to lose its franchise quarterback.
