Mrs. Linda Marvine Hunt Gill age 82, of the Brush Creek Community of Smith County finally decided to rest, though she fought it every step of the way on Saturday September 13, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Gill was born June 21, 1943 a daughter of the late Robert Seldon Hunt and Mable Ann Williams Hunt. She was married to the late Phocian Ward Gill, II, and was also preceded by a son: Phocian Ward “Pete” Gill, III; two brothers: Paul Edward Hunt and Robert Charles Hunt.
Affectionately known as “Granny”, she was as strong willed as they come, stubborn enough to keep us all on out toes yet loving enough to keep us coming back. She lived with grit, humor, and a sharp tongue that was matched only by her generous heart. She was an animal lover who always had room in her heart (and often her home) for all creatures with fur and feathers. She had a passion for horseback riding. Her happiest days were spent in her kitchen baking her famous homemade biscuits and canning her delicious tomatoes. Her door was always open, and her table always had room for one more, treating everyone as family. She was always babysitting grandchildren and never saying no to anybody. She studied and followed the faith of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She leaves behind a family who adored her and will forever remember her as a woman impossible to forget and impossible not to love.
Mrs. Gill is survived by son: Robert Frank Carter; daughters, Sherry Elizabeth (Virgil) Agee, Sharon Marie West, Janetta Dawn (David Pumphrey) Gill: grandchildren, Felicia Weston, Bryan Gill, Jessica Farrell, Elizabeth Long, Anna Gammons, Richard Farrell, Jennifer Gibbs, Alyissa Carter, Felicia Huddleston, Samantha Agee, Elizabeth Nolen, Amy Roberts, and Derrick Tayse and thirty-one great-grandchilden, and one great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Gill is at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes where funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday September 16, 2025 at 1 PM with Don Allmon officiating. Interment will follow in the Gordonsville Cemetery.
Mrs. Gill’s family will receive friends on Monday from 3PM until 8PM and on Tuesday after 10AM.
