LSU is rolling early in 2025, now 3-0 after a gritty 20-10 home victory Saturday night over the Florida Gators. The Tigers are also ranked third in the Associated Press media poll and received first-place votes last week.
That success apparently didn’t make coach Brian Kelly immune to criticism from reporters following Saturday night’s victory – and Kelly did not like it one bit. The first question Kelly took after his opening statement was from WBRZ’s Michael Cauble about LSU’s performance on third down, as the Tigers converted just 4 of 14 chances against the Gators.
“It’s one game. Last game we were great on third down,” Kelly said at the podium. “You’re micro… you’re looking at this from the wrong perspective. LSU won the football game. What do you want from me? Do you want us to win 70-0 against Florida to keep you happy?”
Undeterred, Cauble responded with a question Kelly about the Tigers’ relative struggles to run the football against Florida – despite gaining 102 yards on the ground on 22 carries. That number was inflated significantly, though, by Caden Durham’s 51-yard burst with 1:52 to play. That carry allowed LSU to kneel out the rest of the game and secure a conference victory.
“Did you see the last play of the game? That’s all you need! You just need one!” Kelly said with a rising volume. “These are ridiculous questions, and I’m getting tired of it. That football team just worked their tail off to get an SEC win, and you want to know what’s wrong.
“You know what? You’re spoiled. You’re spoiled. This team is 17-1 at night, give them some respect – how about that? Instead of micro-analyzing every little thing. This is ridiculous for a group of seasoned reporters. That kind of question is so out of line.”
