Anthony Rizzo’s Special Day, Caissie, Wiggins, Brewers Clinch, and Other Cubs Bullets

Football Sunday means two reminders for you: our Chicago Bears coverage lives here, and the BN Fantasy app/game lives here. There are instant alerts, free bonus picks, and more.

The Cubs lost yesterday, and the Padres won, so the lead there for the top Wild Card spot is down to 3.5 games. However, ALL of the Mets, Reds, and Giants lost, so they are still a full 9.0 games clear of falling entirely out of the playoffs. Basically, the Cubs would have to lose almost all of their remaining games, AND at least two of the Mets/Reds/Giants would have to finish the season absolutely scorching hot. That’s just not happening. Owen Caissie made an incredible catch yesterday, but unfortunately it cost him:

Per Craig Counsell, Owen Caissie left the game with concussion symptoms. He got gradually worse after running into the wall and couldn't continue. His head hit the bricks.

    — Elise Menaker (@EliseMenaker) September 13, 2025 Caissie had just come back up yesterday to play in that game, in large part because Seiya Suzuki has been out with an illness. If Caissie now also has to miss time, that’s three right fielders the Cubs are down. Hopefully Caissie recovers well. Head injuries are always scary. Of Suzuki’s illness, Craig Counsell told the Tribune: “He’s not doing great. Definitely his status is in question for (Sunday).” So that sounds ominous. Anthony Rizzo’s return was a bit spoiled by the ending, but it was a pretty great day nonetheless:

Final line for Jaxon Wiggins tonight: 2.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. Faced a lineup with some really good hitters tonight and held his own. Of the four strikeouts, two came on changeups, one on the heater and one on a curveball. Got Suwinski with a front-door change.
