Islamabad – SANA

At least 97 people have been killed and more than 4.4 million others affected after massive floods swept through Punjab province in eastern Pakistan, marking one of the country’s worst natural disasters this year.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, the floods—triggered by rising waters in the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers—destroyed over 4,500 villages and forced the evacuation of some 2.45 million people to safer areas as large-scale rescue and relief operations continue.

Authorities have set up 396 relief camps and evacuated nearly 1.9 million livestock in an effort to mitigate agricultural and economic losses.

The disaster comes amid Pakistan’s annual monsoon season, which runs from June to September and regularly causes devastating floods, particularly in areas with weak infrastructure. Officials continue to work to contain the damage, while international appeals grow for urgent humanitarian aid to assist those affected.
