Andy Carroll was shown a red card on his full debut for Dagenham and Redbridge.
After joining the sixth-tier side in July, the former Newcastle and Liverpool striker was named in the starting line-up for the first time in an FA Cup qualifier away to Bedford Town.
Carroll missed the start of the season with a hamstring injury, and finally recovered to make his Daggers debut last week.
Unfortunately for the Englishman, he was unable to help his side after coming off the bench, who were thrashed 5-2 by Worthing.
But things have now gone from bad to worse for Carroll, as he was handed a starting spot up today in the FA Cup second qualifying round.
The 36-year-old was even handed the captain’s armband in the hope of an inspired performance against Bedford.
Instead, this had the opposite effect, as the target man was sent off before half-time.
With his side leading 1-0, Carroll was shown a straight red for a foul when jumping for the ball.
And fans were quick to pick up on the striker’s misfortune, as they flocked online to share their reaction.
One joked: “What a signing he’s turned out to be!!!!”
Another stunned user simply wrote: “WOW seriously”
Meanwhile, a less than impressed supporter said: “Unfit and unprofessional great signing.”

Carroll received a warm welcome from Dagenham and Redbridge supporters in pre-season, but they won’t be pleased with him nowGettyCarroll’s red card meant that this was the third consecutive match where Dagenham and Redbridge have been reduced to 10 men.
In their last match against Worthing, Joe Samuel Haigh was shown a late red card, while Corey Panter was sent off after just 23 minutes the week before against Dover Athletic.
Another fan remarked on this, tweeting: “You couldn’t make this stuff up. ill discipline throughout the squad. 3 reds in 9 games..shambles!”
And Carroll’s dismissal may well have been the difference for his side.
Down to 10 men, Dagenham and Redbridge were unable to defend their lead, with Bedford snatching an equaliser in second half stoppage time to force a replay.
The ex-England international will now have to wait three more games for a chance to make amends with his new club, who currently sit 21st in the National League South table.
Carroll began his career as a promising striker at Newcastle – scoring 33 times for the clubGettyCarroll opted to return to English football after leaving French side Bordeaux earlier in the summer.
He joined Bordeaux from Amiens in 2024, with the former playing in the fourth tier of French football having been relegated down the leagues after going into receivership.
This is all a far cry from the first part of his career, when Carroll emerged as one of England’s most promising young strikers.
After impressing at first club Newcastle, the tall centre-forward joined Liverpool for a then-British record £35million.
But his time at Anfield was largely unsuccessful, as he scored just 11 goals in 58 appearances for the Reds.
Six injury-ravaged years at West Ham followed, before a disappointing return to Newcastle in 2019 and further stints in the Championship with West Brom and Reading.
