Another season of Saturday Night Live is upon us, and with it, some major cast shake-ups. It was announced earlier this summer that four former cast members would not be returning to the 51st season of the long-running sketch show, including the shocking exits of Heidi Gardner, who had been a regular on the show for eight seasons and Ego Nwodim, who'd been on the cast for seven. Other departures include Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker, who were both on SNL for three seasons, and Season 50 new-hire Emil Wakim, who leaves after just one.
But with every cast departure at Saturday Night Live comes a fresh crop of comedians ready to breathe new life into the show. This season, we’ll be welcoming five fresh faces into the fold, including TikTok stars Veronika Slowikowska and Jeremy Culhane, stand-up comedians Tommy Brennan and Kam Patterson, and Please Don’t Destroy’s Ben Marshall.
While we wait for the Season 51 premiere on October 4th, live on NBC and Peacock, let’s get to know all the new and returning faces of our newest SNL cast.
Saturday Night Live Season 51 cast
Colin Jost on SNLNBC
Colin Jost
Jost returns to Season 51, marking his 12th season on the show. After much speculation that Season 50 would be his last, the former head writer will once again co-host the fan favorite segment “Weekend Update” as he has since he joined the show in 2014. Cheers to another season of Colin (lovingly) being the butt of other cast members’ jokes.

Michael Che on SNLNBC
Michael Che
Also back for his twelfth season at SNL, Jost’s “Weekend Update” partner in crime, Michael Che, returns to 30 Rock with more of his dry wit and big-swing jokes. Still serving as a writer behind the scenes, we can’t wait for him to write his signature off-color jokes for Jost to read live on air. It’s always one of the highlights of any season.
Kenan Thompson on SNLNBC
Kenan Thompson
Kenan is SNL’s longest-running cast member, entering his 23rd season of the show. Yes, you read that right. Thompson joined in 2003 after a successful career as a child star in shows like All That and Kenan & Kel, and he’s been a treasured part of SNL ever since. With countless characters behind him, we can’t wait to see what he’ll do in Season 51, but the return of “What’s Up With That?” would be more than welcome.

Mikey Day on SNLNBC
Mikey Day
The Is It Cake host is coming back to the Saturday Night Live stage for Season 51, marking his 12th year working on the show, though only his ninth on screen. Day was hired as a writer in 2013, and then three years later was brought into the fold of featured players, a common trajectory for many SNL alums. Perhaps another “Parking Lot Altercation” is on the horizon?

Bowen Yang on SNLNBC
Bowen Yang
Another writer-turned-actor, Bowen joined the show behind the scenes during SNL’s 44th season, before getting in front of the camera for Season 45. The Las Culturistas host has more than a few Emmy nominations under his belt for his work on the storied sketch show, and it’s not hard to see why — he’s a bona fide star! Always rolling into the “Update” desk with creative characters (like the iceberg that sank the Titanic), all eyes are on Bowen to see what he’ll do next.
Chloe Fineman on SNLNBC
Chloe Fineman
The queen of impressions returns to the Studio 8H stage for her seventh season on the sketch show. With a bevy of accents in her arsenal, Fineman is always ready to jump into a scene and up the wacky factor. She also helps keep the show topical, like last season, when she impersonated Parker Posey’s viral White Lotus accent. “Piper, naaooo!”
Andrew Dismukes on SNLNBC
Andrew Dismukes
Dismukes spent three years writing on the show before finally being brought up to Featured Player status ahead of Season 46. Now entering Season 51, Andrew celebrates his eighth year working on the show, and we hope to see his return to the “Weekend Update” desk, with or without his Puppet Dad.
Sarah Sherman on SNLNBC
Sarah Sherman
Sarah Sherman joined SNL as a featured player in 2021, bringing with her a fresh (and often gross) brand of comedy the show had never really seen before. Now heading into her fifth season, Sherman has become a staple of the show, especially shining when she antagonizes Colin Jost during her “Update” appearances. Long live Sarah Squirm!
James Austin Johnson on SNLNBC
James Austin Johnson
Saturday Night Live’s resident Trump impersonator, Johnson comes back for his fifth year on the show, and it’s safe to say he’ll have plenty of material to keep him busy. Johnson has been crushing SNL’s cold opens almost weekly for the last couple of years, and we’re sure Season 51 will be no exception.
Marcello Hernandez on SNLNBC
Marcello Hernández
One of SNL’s most recent breakout stars, Marcello is responsible for one of the show's most viral sketches, playing Domingo in the “Bridesmaids Speech” sketch, which has already garnered two sequels. Heading into his fourth season, it seems his star is still on the rise. From his “Update” appearances to his consistent work in scenes, Hernández is quickly becoming an audience favorite.

Ashley Padilla
One of Season 50’s Featured Players, Padilla embarks on her second season of the show after proving her chops throughout SNL’s golden anniversary year. Her natural and easy comedic talent allows her to play the straight woman without fading into the background, and provides a nice foil to some of the show’s more bombastic players. We’re excited to see more.

Jane Wickline
Another Season 50 new hire, Wickline heads into her second year on the Saturday Night Live stage. Throughout her first season, Jane consistently delighted audiences both on-air and online with her original songs at the “Weekend Update” desk, touching on everything from dating advice to how to really enjoy a party. Certainly, she’ll have more ditties in Season 51.
Ben MarshallAndrew Thomas
Ben Marshall
New to the cast in Season 51 is former SNL writer Ben Marshall. One third of the Please Don’t Destroy comedy trio, Marshall follows in many writers' footsteps as he moves into his new role as Featured Player, though it does seem to spell the end of the fan-favorite PDD digital shorts — a small price to pay to see Ben crush in more sketches.
Veronika SlowikowskaCobey Arner
Veronika Slowikowska
If you spend any time scrolling through your TikTok FYP, then there’s a good chance you’re already familiar with Veronika Slowikowska. She has had many viral moments online with her comedy videos, and has popped up in shows like What We Do in the Shadows and Poker Face. Her brand of awkward humor should be a great fit for SNL.
Jeremy CulhaneEllyn Jameson
Jeremy Culhane
Another TikTok star, Culhane is known for his work at the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB), where he regularly performs sketch and improv comedy. Outside of that, you may know him from his appearances on Dropout TV or from his roles in shows like Heathers or The Sex Lives of College Girls. Both current and former SNL cast members have a history with UCB, like Ego Nwodim, Bowen Yang, and UCB founder Amy Poehler, so Culhane should fit right in.
Tommy BrennanJuliet Farmer
Tommy Brennan
The Chicago-based stand-up will leave the Windy City for the Big Apple, where he’ll get back to his sketch comedy roots. If his name seems familiar, you might have seen him as an opening act for heavy-hitter stand-ups like Taylor Tomlinson and Nikki Glaser, or maybe from his appearance on The Tonight Show earlier this summer.
Kam PattersonJim Cambridge
Kam Patterson
Two TikTok stars are joining the cast, so why not two up-and-coming stand-ups? The Orlando, FL comedian rounds out the cast of new Featured Players, and is most known for his appearances on the Kill Tony podcast. Let’s see how all of these fresh voices fit into this brand-new season of SNL.
