After nearly four years of construction, San Diego International Airport is opening its brand new Terminal 1 on Sept. 23 — but locals can see it sooner.
This Sunday, community members are invited to explore the $3.4 billion terminal from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., no registration required.
At the open house, guests are encouraged to stop by the terminal’s five retail stores and 12 restaurants for free items and food samples.
Airport officials will be posted throughout the terminal to answer any questions guests may have as they tour.
Free parking is available at the Terminal 1 Parking Plaza. Guests should bring their ticket with them to the information desk at Arrivals Level 1 near the baggage claim to receive a three-hour validation.
The terminal also will be holding a passenger simulation experience for registered guests on Sunday.
Registration is currently full for this event, but those who signed up will be the first to test operations at the terminal, going through check-in and security in order to pinpoint necessary improvements for airport officials.
