ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The inaugural fundraiser for Ruth’s Restoration took place at the Strathallan Hotel on Thursday night. The money raised will help women who are re-entering society after incarceration and women facing struggles with addiction or a personal crisis.
Ruth’s Restoration is a transitional home that offers women a place to live in a structured, faith-based environment for up to two years. At the same time, they can take advantage of life-skills training and other services.
“So a place like Ruth’s Restoration Place allows a woman to come in a safe environment where there is not any chaos, said Dr. Tracy Strawberry, guest speaker and author. “Where there is security and the proper information, counseling, love, support that they need in order to break free from these cycles of addiction through the healing process.”
Executive director Cheryll Brown created this non-profit. She says her motivation to help others comes from her own experiences.
“I had addiction for years and my whole life was basically trauma, Brown said. “And now that I’ve been healed and I’ve recovered from all my brokenness, I want to give back to the community. I want to give some of the ladies a chance to get what I got, to get back on their feet, rebuild their life, get restored back to who they were meant to be.”
