Video shows Trump behind bulletproof glass as boos ring out at Yankee Stadium

President Donald Trump’s team seems to have drastically ramped up security following the killing of conservative commentator and Maga ally Charlie Kirk on Wednesday during a public event at a college campus in Utah.

Trump, who was the target of two assassination attempts last year, is said to be reeling after Kirk’s murder, and photos and videos show how Trump’s security team have beefed-up measures in the wake of Kirk’s shooting.

During an appearance at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, Trump also had to deal with booing from the crowd, reminiscent of scenes at the US Open last weekend.

The extra security precautions were visible when Trump attended a baseball game at New York’s Yankees Stadium on the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attack.

Bullet-proof glass was installed around the upper level box suite where the President took his seat for the Yankees victory over the Detroit Tigers, with three glass panels lined up next to each other.

Police snipers were also stationed on the stadium roof overlooking the field.

Metal detectors, Secret Service agents and sniffer dogs monitored entrances into the 47,000-capacity stadium as police helicopters patrolled the Bronx skies.

A statement from the Secret Service advised fans that more time would be needed to enter the stadium due to the beefed-up screening and advised supporters to leave bags at home.

Trump was greeted with a chorus of boos, cheers and chants of ‘USA’ by the crowd when he appeared on the stadium monitor.

A ceremony at the Pentagon on Thursday to mark the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks was also moved to a more secure location by Trump’s team.

The site was changed from a public space to an interior courtyard on the morning of his speech “out of an abundance of caution,” officials said.

The ceremony has usually been held near the Pentagon’s memorial outside the building’s walls.

During the ceremony, Trump declared he would posthumously award Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Earlier this month, the US Open final was delayed around half an hour because of extra security measures due to Trump’s attendance. As the match got underway, empty seats could be seen at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

But unlike at Yankees Stadium on Thursday, the hospitality suite Trump and his companions, which included his wife Melania and White House special envoy Steve Witkoff, were seated in was not surrounded by security glass.

In footage shared on social media, the crowd could be heard booing loudly when the President appeared on screens.

Questions over security at Charlie Kirk event

The killing of Kirk took place at an open-air rally held on a college campus with around 3,000 people in attendance.

He was shot while sitting on a stage with no protective screening by a gunman who appears to have been able to enter the Utah Valley University campus and fire a round from a nearby rooftop.

Six police officers patrolled Wednesday’s event, while several security guards appeared to surround Kirk, who had previously received death threats, before he was shot.

But witnesses said that there were few security measures, like bag searches and security checkpoints in place, and that tickets were not checked.

Trump’s team is reportedly now discussing how to ramp up the President’s long-term personal security.

In a Washington DC restaurant on Wednesday, Trump was confronted by pro-Palestine protesters who branded him a “Hitler of our time”.

The group, Code Pink, said they were able to get within a few feet of Trump simply by booking a reservation at the restaurant, Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab.

A Secret Service spokesperson said all guests were screened before Trump’s arrival, including the protesters.

In another incident, on 31 August, Secret Service agents failed to detect a loaded Glock handgun in a guest’s bag at a Virginia golf club while Trump was there.

Security will be high for Trump’s state visit to the UK next week, with thousands of police officers joining dozens of Secret Service agents and drones monitoring the skies around Windsor Castle.
