(KRON) — Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton was put on lockdown Wednesday due to “concerning content” shared online by a former student, the Atherton Police Department announced Thursday.
The Atherton Police Department was notified of the "possible threat" to the high school through its tip line.
"The information involved a former Menlo-Atherton High School student, currently enrolled at another high school in the area, who had reportedly posted concerning content online related to Menlo-Atherton High School," Atherton PD said.
‘Possible threat’ probed, lifted at San Mateo County high schoolThe school was placed on lockdown "out of an abundance of caution," and officers were dispatched to the campus for student and staff safety, Atherton PD said. Laurel School was also temporarily placed on lockdown due to its proximity to Menlo-Atherton High School.
Police ultimately found and detained the former student. The incident remains under investigation.
"No further threat to the school community is believed to exist at this time," Atherton PD said.
