Amanda Seales Doesn’t Hold Back in Blunt Reaction to Charlie Kirk’s Death

In the wake of the shooting and death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, as reported by CNN, comedian Amanda Seales shared her no-holds-barred take on the situation.

Seales played Tiffany DuBois on HBO's Insecure and had a comedy special on HBO. She was a co-host on The Real and hosted Bring the Funny on NBC.

In addition, Seales does a weekly podcast titled Small Doses and has published a book with the same title. She founded Smart Funny & Black Productions Inc. and has a master's degree from Columbia University in African American studies.

During a live chat that was shared on Instagram, Seales spoke extensively about Kirk's shooting. When she began talking about it, Kirk's condition was unknown. She acknowledged later during the live that it had been reported Kirk had died.

Early on in her live, Seales bluntly called out people commenting about having empathy for Kirk. She noted, "First of all, Charlie Kirk don't believe in empathy. He said it's a bad thing. He said it's some new age made-up s___."

Seales was referencing a statement Kirk made several years ago. As Snopes detailed, Kirk shared his thoughts on the concept during the October 12, 2022, episode of The Charlie Kirk Show.

"I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think 'empathy' is a made-up, new-age term that does a lot of damage," a video from the episode showed Kirk saying. He added that he preferred the word "sympathy" over empathy, but noted that was a separate discussion.

Seales also referenced a statement Kirk previously made about gun deaths and Second Amendment rights. Snopes shareda video that had been posted on X, formerly Twitter, of what Kirk said. The statements happened at the TPUSA Faith event in April 2023.

Kirk said, "We must be honest with the population. Having an armed citizenry comes with a price, and that is part of liberty. Driving comes with a price. 50,000 people die on the road every year. That's a price. You get rid of driving, you'd have 50,000 less auto fatalities. But we have decided that the benefit of driving...is worth the cost of 50,000 people dying on the road. So we need to be very clear that you're not going ot get gun deaths to zero. It will not happen."

He continued, "You will never live in a society when you have an armed citizenry and you won't have a single gun death. That is nonsense. It's drivel. But I am, I, I — I think it's worth it. I think it's worth, to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational."

Searles explained, "The thing about empathy is that it requires energy. It requires connectivity. Right? And, you know, some people think empathy and sympathy are the same thing, and they're not the same thing."

She added, "Empathy is when you are literally feeling what the other person is feeling...When you put yourself in their shoes. I can't have empathy for someone like Charlie Kirk because I cannot be in his shoes. I have no frame of reference for that...There literally is nothing about his existence that I can relate to. So, I don't have any empathy because I have no connectivity."

In addition, Searles said that she has not lost compassion and insisted she has "incredible compassion." However, she added, "Not for this."

    Searles' Fans Had Her Back

Fans of Searles flooded the comment section of her post with notes of support.

"I liked this post before she even started talking," declared one of Seales' followers.

"I love you thank u for staying real and speaking the blunt truths," another fan wrote.

Someone else suggested, "He gets zero empathy/sumpathy from me...I'm saving my feelings for the innocent kids who are in critical condition because of another school shooting."

"You speak to the depths of my SOUL," an additional comment read.

Searles returned to Instagram with a couple of additional videos after the live she did. She did not apologize or back down from the strong sentiments she previously shared.

She mentioned that people had been commenting about how one doesn't have to agree with how someone lived to have sympathy for them after their death.

"I do have to agree with how you lived in order to care about how you died. I don't know why you don't," she said.

One commenter shared, "Amanda. Please be safe. Wish nothing but protection of you. Keep speaking truth to power."
