An actress who had roles in a handful of beach party movies in the 1960s has died at the age of 82. Salli Sachse, who appeared in films such as Beach Blanket Bingo and Bikini Beach, died on September 8 at her California home, according to The Hollywood Reporter, per Sachse's niece, Catherine Schreiber.
In addition to appearing in several beach party movies, Sachse toured as an official photographer with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young for a while. Before she embraced acting, she was a model and competed in a Miss America pageant.
Later, Sachse starred with Peter Fonda in the 1967 film Trip, and she also appeared in the 1968 movie Wild in the Streets. According to her IMDb page, Sachse's last acting gig came in 1969 when she appeared in one episode of Mannix.

The Beach Blanket Bingo alum was married for several years to folksinger Peter Sachse. He died in a plane crash at the age of 26 in July 1966, noted The New York Times.
Salli may not have become a major breakout star during her acting days, but she worked with iconic entertainers Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello and enjoyed it. She told Cinema Retro, "Frankie and Annette were very easy going and a pleasure to work with, but they weren't real beach people."
She revealed that Funicello "refused to wear a bikini," and would only wear one-piece swimsuits in her films. Avalon, Salli joked, "was raised in Philadelphia so I don't think he ever saw a surfboard in his life!"
"Because we grew up on the beach, a lot of us thought we were so cool compared to Frankie and Annette," Salli recalled.
Once interest in beach party movies died off, Salli tried edgier roles. She appeared as a drag strip fan in Fireball 500 and a biker gal in Devil's Angels before her roles in The Trip and Wild in the Streets.
She shifted from acting to modeling and then photography, later getting a master's degree in psychology. She spent the latter part of her career working with at-risk teenagers.
