Texas Ford Aquatics’ Avery Whorton has committed to the University of Utah women’s program for the fall of 2026.

Earlier this summer, Whorton competed at the Summer Junior National Championships. There, she set a new lifetime best in the 1500 freestyle in 17:32.57, finishing 47th. She also added a 71st-place finish in the 800 free (9:17.12) and an 86th-place showing in the 400 IM (5:06.98).
The Little Elm, Tex., native had one of her career best outings at the Speedo Sectionals in Justin this past March (SCY). She brought home a slew of lifetime bests, hitting new all-time marks in the 50 free (24.86), 500 free (4:53.69), 1000 free (9:58.15), and the 1650 free (16:42.80).
Another one of Wharton’s best showings came in December of 2023 at the North Texas KMSC King Marlin Pro-Am Classic. She swam two lifetime bests at that meet that still stand as her best ever showings in those events; she touched in 4:20.32 in the 400 IM, and 1:51.46 in the 200 free.

200 free: 1:51.46 500 Free: 4:53.69 1000 Free: 9:58.15 1650 Free: 16:42.80 400 IM: 4:20.32The Utah women finished 5th at last season’s Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships. Wharton’s best times would have qualified for the ‘C’ final in the 400 IM and 500 free, and finished 8th in the 1650 free.
Wharton will come into Utah’s program with immediate scoring opportunities, and there is a real possibility that those scoring numbers will only continue to rise.
From December of 2023 to December of 2024, Wharton took nearly 30 seconds off of her 1650, and has even dropped that further with her best time from March. Her 500 free tells a similar story, she shaved off nearly three and a half seconds in the span of just under a year.
She has made considerable improvements in both of these events, which may help catapult her into the upper tier of Big 12 distance racing and a regular in conference championship finals.
The Utah recruiting class for 2026 also includes Linnea Florin and Ana Diedrichs.
