Paul Finebaum wasn’t sold on Bill Belichick when it was announced that he was going to be the coach at North Carolina, but he was willing to see it through and give it a chance.
However, the Tar Heels aren’t off to a good start. First, they were blown out by TCU in Week 1. While they did win in Week 2 against Charlotte, 20-3, the team struggled for much of the game. And amid the on-field issues, Belichick has made waves away from the field by banning the New England Patriots from UNC’s football facilities because he was made to feel unwelcome in New England.
With the struggles on the field and all the pettiness off the field, Finebaum said the start at North Carolina is laughable right now.
“Fairly laughable,” Finebaum said during an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show. “I want to be a fan of Bill Belichick, but he makes it impossible. The first game was just an absolute and total disaster on the biggest stage he will ever have at North Carolina. His comments this week make it more difficult. Why do you have to continue to be Bill Belichick? To say what he did about locking the Patriots out was just downright stupid.”

Now, if Belichick is able to go out and win some football games, the narrative may change. However, the combination of bad on-field play and off-the-field embarrassment has North Carolina football looking like the butt of a joke.
