The North County Transit District announced Wednesday that they will temporarily suspend all coastal rail service next weekend, beginning this Saturday.
“North County Transit – San Diego Railroad will suspend all coastal rail service on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21 to perform routine railroad maintenance and major infrastructure work,” the rail service said in a statement.
NCTD’s COASTER service between San Diego and Oceanside will be suspended during this period. Regularly scheduled service will resume the morning after the closure on Monday, September 22.”
At least two projects will include work on the Del Mar Bluffs and track maintenance at the Sorrento Valley Sation, according to transit officials.
The NCTD said that weekend closures occur periodically throughout the year on a predetermined schedule to provide construction crews with a chance to work on and around rail lines.
No passenger or freight trains will be operating during the closure, but test trains, construction vehicles and equipment will be active.
Officials advised residents to remain alert along the corridor and to cross the rail line at designated crossings.
