While appearing on the Tuesday, September 9, episode of the "Shut Up Evan" podcast, host Evan Ross Katz asked Akerman, 47, if she ever thought she would "become a lesbian icon."
"I did not. And I love it. I've gotten a nickname. 'Mother.' The highest respect. I'm like, 'Thank you. Thank you very much,'" she said.
Akerman also insisted that she's been loving her new reputation and hopes it doesn't go away. "I'm loving every moment of it! Keep bringing it!" she said.
Season 1 of The Hunting Wives follows residents of a fictional town in East Texas. After Sophie (Brittany Snow) moves to the town with her family, she's drawn into the glamorous and dangerous world of socialite Margo (Akerman) and her elite clique called the "Hunting Wives." Sophie and Margo quickly grow close and begin a romantic relationship, which is one of the reasons Akerman has been deemed a "lesbian icon."
While many fans are loving season 1, Netflix has not yet announced if the show will be coming back for season 2.

Akerman and Snow, 39, attended the Creative Arts Emmys together on September 6, where they were asked about a potential season 2. Akerman told reporters that “we’re asking the same questions” about whether or not Netflix will bring them back, per Deadline.
“We feel positive from all the feedback that we’ve had from people,” Akerman continued. “But nothing to report yet.”
Meanwhile, Snow added that they were “feeling hopeful" about bringing the show back for another season.
