Aldi’s $6 Freezer Staple Rivals a Beloved Warehouse Favorite

It’s no secret that my love for pizza knows no bounds. What began as a childhood obsession became a staple in my diet as I grew older—though admittedly, these days I have to limit my enjoyment more than I’d wish.

Efforts at moderation aside, I’ve never been a pizza snob—and I enjoy a frozen store-bought pie just as much as one from my favorite pizza joint. And while I’ve recently taken an interest in making pizza at home from scratch, I’ll never give up the hunt for the perfect frozen pie.

Which brings me to Aldi’s Mama Cozzi’s Pizza Kitchen Detroit-Style Pepperoni Pizza, hitting stores this week. It bears a striking resemblance to a Costco style I’m also a huge fan of—only at less than half the price. At just $6.29, I’m already hoping it becomes a mainstay in Aldi’s freezers.

After obsessing over Costco’s Motor City Pizza for the past six months, it only makes sense that this Mama Cozzi creation would catch my eye immediately. What I loved at first sight was the more personal-sized packaging—just one pie per box compared to Motor City’s two. And at $6.29, you’re getting about 25-percent less pizza footprint with Mama Cozzi, but as I mentioned, it’s much better suited as a solo meal.

    Flavor That Hits Right

Of course, shopping at Costco is all about buying in bulk, so it makes sense to spend over $15 on two family-sized deep-dish pies. But there’s more to love about this Aldi creation than just price and size—it also delivers big flavor and satisfying texture.

After preheating the oven to 425°F and baking the pizza for about 20 to 22 minutes, one look at the bubbling cheese, slightly crisped pepperoni, and perfectly baked crust was all it took to know this pizza was going to be good. And with the first bite, I was instantly rewarded for tossing this incredible freezer find into my cart.

Each bite is soft and airy, with a satisfying base layer of crunch from the expertly cooked crust. There’s no shortage of cheese either—in fact, before baking, I had to scoop up mounds of shredded cheese that had shifted to the sides during shipping and sprinkle them back on top.
